Western life in its variety holds a special fascination for Jackie Penner. Her paintings reflect the strength of her feelings for the wildlife, people and landscape of the true west.

Penner is a self-taught oil painter and draws her inspirations from the wonderful wildlife and domestic animals that she lives around. Living on a farm for over 37 years with her husband Jay and her two children, now grown, Penner has had the opportunity to live the life she loves. This love has inspired many paintings through the years.

Penner’s love of horses is reflected on many of her canvases. Her husband's family raised and worked the large draft horses giving her many of the Belgian horses to use as subjects. She states they exhibit such an awesome beauty and peacefulness that she can’t resist transferring to her canvases.

In the year 2000 she tried to hone her painting ability by taking a week long workshop in Bozeman, Montana with nationally know wildlife artist Terry Isaacs. Feeling she gained a wealth of information from her experience she signed up to repeat that experience again with Terry Isaacs in June of 2001.

Penner has shown her work for many years with some of her winnings being the Grumbacher Award at the Walla Walla Art Guilds show and various Grand, Reserve and Peoples Choice awards at local fairs. In 2003 she took first place over all divisions of Non Professionals at the 21st Annual Wallowa Valley Art show in Joseph, Oregon . In returning to the 22nd annual Wallowa Valley Art show in 2004 she had the honor of winning Best of Show with her painting “Daily Rounds.”

Some of her most memorable moments were being accepted into the Women Artists of the West Association as a Signature member,  attending the Women Artists of the West 5th International Juried Art Show in Dubois, Wyoming in 2003 and the American Southwest Art Exhibition, put on by Women Artists of the West and held at the Regan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California in 2004, holding the office of Ad Director from 2004-2006 and WAOW Presidency in 2007.

Penner’s long range plans are to paint until she can no longer hold a brush.
